Northport is a village in Suffolk County, New York. It is located on the North Shore of Long Island, approximately fifty miles east of Midtown Manhattan. Asharoken is to the north, East Northport is to the south, Fort Salonga is to the east, and the Northport Harbor forms the western village boundary., the village population was estimated at 7,300. The village was originally referred to as "Great Cow Harbour", but by 1837, the village was already being called Northport, as the village had entered and flourished in the ship building industry.
