Southold is a town in Suffolk County, New York. It is located on the northeast corner of Long Island. To the north and the east is the Long Island Sound. To the south is the Great Peconic Bay, which separates the northern fork and southern fork of Long Island. To the west is the town of Riverhead. Southold encompasses a number of islands located further east of Long Island. One of them is Fishers Island, which is in fact closer to Connecticut (3 miles) than New York (11 miles)., the town population was estimated at 23,800.
